Faces of Palm Desert with Atandra Burman, CEO of RCE

Each month at Fusion Workplaces we have the pleasure of highlighting one of our valued members. This month we are featuring Atandra Burman, CEO of RCE. Continue reading to discover how Atandra's personal experiences and keen innovation allow him to create life-saving products that have the potential to positively impact lives in our local and global communities.

Tell us about yourself and what you do?

I am a product innovator – I am currently focused on the tech and medical aspects of the industry. More recently I have been hyper-focused in cardiac diagnostics developing a product that can detect silent heart attacks by reading the proteins in your body without drawing blood. I had the idea years ago – drew it out and started my search for the right team to bring this device to life!

How did you get started in your industry?

I attended Purdue University which helped me continue building my tech/engineering background. I was in San Francisco some years back – I met up with some friends from my Purdue days, between my friends and I, we all collaborated on a start-up – focused and grew that business until about 2018, I then decided to bring that chapter to a close and depart to begin working on what is now RCE.

What is something about your business that most people do not know?

We have the power to detect and stop a silent heart attack. Whether you suffer from diabetes, neuropathy, or any cardiac disease there is a chance you could be at risk. Many people have passed in their sleep because of cardiac arrest, so this device is a HUGE step in getting ahead of that. My father suffered from a silent heart attack and in some ways has inspired a lot of my research.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

In 5 years, we would love to expand our reach and have these devices in patients’ hands to use in the comfort of their own homes, to monitor themselves in their normal rhythm and routines. I foresee this device being used in more than just your average hospital or health care facility. Hopefully, we will have hundreds of people in the trial phase and collect data on how to keep improving our device.

Other than work, what are you passionate about?

Traveling! When I’m in other places in the world I love to get out into nature and take it easy, I really enjoy doing anything. I love to disconnect and just enjoy my time away from the office; I love my work – I consider it my dream job so when I am in the office, I am 100% there and dedicated to what is in front of me – days out and about really give me that time to unwind.

What types of activities or hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

Spending time with my kids – I love to teach them tennis and improve their skills, I also love paddle boarding - we do that pretty often. I spend a lot of time enjoying nature and the outdoors. I really love going to a new place and having no expectations – just arrive and see what the area has to offer, those are some of the most gratifying trips – no plan, just plan as we go and have fun.

Why did you choose Fusion Workplaces Palm Desert? How has Fusion Workplaces helped you and your business succeed?

When I first moved into the area, I was looking for a shared workspace – shopped around a little and tried a few out, then I found you guys! When I came into Fusion it had a different vibe – the staff is great, you guys are always going above and beyond and making the members are taken care of. The staff at a workspace is very important to me – and the staff here is so great which ultimately made me stay! Love it here!
