Faces of Palm Desert with Adam Encinas
Did you know that in 2018, the CDC determined that about 1 in 59 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and that boys are 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls.  With Autism affecting so many families here in the Coachella Valley; we thought it was important to meet with our member, Adam Encinas, and learn more about the Center for Autism and Related Disorder’s located right here in Palm Desert.

Adam Encinas is the operation’s manager for the Center for Autism and Related Disorder’s Palm Desert location. CARD is the world’s largest Autism treatment provider and they are excited to be able to provide services to the Coachella Valley.  As operations manager, Adam oversee most of the administrative tasks such as payroll, hiring, and scheduling as well as building and maintaining positive relationships with the staff and families.

Prior to working for CARD Adam worked with special populations as a therapeutic recreation instructor and had previous experience as a skills developer for people with disabilities.  As he was preparing to go back to school for a degree in Therapeutic Recreation, he saw that CARD was preparing to open up a center in Palm Desert and felt that that it would be the perfect opportunity to work in the field that he is majoring in.

CARD is the third largest non-governmental organization in the United States contributing to Autism research!  Their mission is to make a difference in the world by providing top quality, innovative, evidence based, effective treatment to ensure that individuals will fulfill their potential.

The Coachella Valley population continues to grow with more and more young families making it their home.  Doctors are now diagnosing Autism at earlier ages and insurance providers are offering coverage due to the success of early intervention therapy that CARD provides.  Adam went on to say, “I believe in the next 5 years we can have two centers providing services that cover the entire Coachella Valley.”

Adam was born and raised in Northern California and moved to the desert in 2010.  Adam wishes he had more free time.  He says, “between working and going to school full time I don’t have a lot of spare time but when I do, I like to do things with my hands such as playing guitar, draw, and wire wrap various rocks and crystals”

Adam is passionate about inner growth and balance.  “I try to take time to myself whenever I can to meditate.”  He went on to say, “I am also a bit of a gym rat although I haven’t been getting in as much as I used to!”

Adam has enjoyed working at Fusion Workplaces Palm Desert.  “I lucked out when I found out that we would be operating out of Fusion Workplaces until our center opens.  The facilities here are beautiful, the front desk staff is amazing, and all of my office neighbors are welcoming and friendly, and, on those days, I need it the coffee is strong and hot!”  Fusion Workplaces has given them a great location where new and existing clients and employees can come by and feel welcomed and comfortable.
